Math Requirements for Majors
How do you know which math course to take your first semester?
Your major determines which math course you must take, and your ACT score determines your readiness to take the course your major requires. Therefore, you should look at the major you’re planning to pursue at UTC to see which course you need. Because some courses require a certain ACT math subscore for course registration, you must know your math score before proceeding.
At any point that you decide to change your major, please be aware you may be required to take additional math courses in order to fulfill the requirements for that major. If you have any questions about which math course you should register for, contact the Center for Advisement and Student Success at 423-425-4573 to speak with an Academic Advisor.
If your major requires MATH 1130 or 1710 and your Math ACT is 18 or lower, click here to discover your options.
