Individualized Education Program (IEP)

The primary purpose of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) is to make The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) more accessible to adults who wish to enter or return to college.  Through the Individualized Education Program, students may apply for undergraduate elective credit for work experience and in-service training. IEP credit can be granted only if the work experience and in-service training are closely related to one or more academic programs at UTC. Not all University departments, however, award IEP credit.

Students should schedule an appointment before they have completed 75 semester hours of college coursework with Hubert L. Prevost, Jr., Office of Cooperative Education, 326 University Center, to discuss their work and training experiences and to receive information about the application process. IEP applications must include exact documentation of the duration, nature, and quality of applicants' work experience and in-service training.

Students must pay a fee for every hour of IEP credit awarded and a filing fee. Fees can be paid in Adult Services. Adult Services will also ensure that IEP credits are entered on students' transcripts after payments are received.

For additional information, please telephone Cooperative Education at (423) 425-4735 or Adult Services at (423) 425-4485.
