Campus Appeal
How
do we explain the fact that about a third of our resident students are from
the Chattanooga area? Simple. They want to “go away” to college
but don’t want to give up the benefits that Chattanooga offers.
More than 120 student organizations, including 17 fraternities and sororities, ensure every student has an opportunity to explore personal interests, develop leadership, and participate in social and philanthropic activities. Events are scheduled on campus almost every night: athletic events, Greek shows, guest speakers, cookouts, concerts, religious activities, plays, movies, and intramurals. And if by chance, there’s nothing scheduled, gather up some friends, a CD player, and pizza and make your own event.
The Chattanooga Mocs own a proud tradition of athletic achievement, spanning
100 years of competition and championships. UTC students are admitted free
to cheer on the Mocs at Finley Stadium, McKenzie Arena, Frost Stadium, Maclellan
Gym, and our other playing venues.
When class is out, UTC is still the place to be.
Home, Sweet, Home
While other campuses are having difficulty filling their residence halls, here at UTC, we have had to build new ones—some of the finest in the South. Our newest apartments—South Campus Housing —opened fall 2004. Our popular accommodations range from suites to two- and four-bedroom apartments. Campus apartments offer a combination of living on your own and sharing a place with roommates. You can even have your own bedroom with a private phone and network connection so you can surf the net, pop your email, and research databases.
“UTC has the best campus housing in the state, especially with the
new UTC Place Apartments opening. I’ve visited friends at other campuses
and I can tell you for sure that they don’t have anything to compare
with what UTC offers,” says Dalrico Howard, a marketing and management
double major from Memphis.
UTC offers a safe living and learning environment, with 24-hour campus police patrols, on-campus escort service after dark, and on-site residence assistants.
A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss
You don’t have to be a varsity letter-earner to work up a sweat, so there are a number of campus athletic facilities (including the new Aquatic and Recreat Center -"ARC")open to all students, including indoor and outdoor tennis courts, racquetball and handball courts, an indoor pool, volleyball and basketball courts, a weight room, a fitness track, a sand volleyball court, and a fitness center. Our Campus Recreation Office offers free activities, including aerobics and yoga classes, and our intramural competitions are open to all students. There’s no excuse for being a couch potato at UTC.
A Sporting Chance
All UTC students enjoy Chattanooga Mocs athletics for free and more than 300 student athletes compete on the University’s 14 men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic teams, winning conference championships on the playing field and achieving academic success in the classroom. The Chattanooga Mocs are members of the Southern Conference and compete in Division I (football in IAA) of the NCAA, fielding teams in men’s football, basketball, wrestling, tennis, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track; and women’s basketball, golf, volleyball, tennis, softball, soccer, cross country, and indoor and outdoor track.
