Applicant Types

In many cases, a student's applicant type determines the requirements and deadlines for completing and submitting admissions materials.  For this reason, we have provided a summary of each type of applicant to help you select the category which best describes you.  The following are different applicant types considered for admission the The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Freshman Applicants

High school students and graduates who have attended high school in the U.S.

Transfer Students

Students who have been registered at another college or university and transfer more than 12 hours of college level non-developmental coursework. 

Readmission Students

Students who have previously been enrolled at UTC and have not attended another institution since that time. 

Transfer students who have been previously enrolled at UTC should select "Readmission Transfer" when filling out the application.

Transient Admission (Visiting)

Students who are enrolled in another college or university and do not wish to transfer to UTC and seek a degree may enroll as transient students for one semester.

Non-Degree Seeking

Students who wish to take courses for credit but do not wish to earn a degree.

(High school diploma required)

Audit Students

Students who do not wish to earn credit for the courses they attend, nor do they seek to earn a degree.

(High school diploma required)

Post-Bacc

Students who have previously completed a bachelor's degree.

  • Degree Seeking

    Students who are seeking an additional degree.
  • Non-Degree Seeking

    Students who are not seeking an additional degree.
  • Teacher Certification

    Students who are seeking to gain their initial or renew existing teacher certification.

Graduate Admissions

Students who want to pursue a master's or doctoral degree or graduate certification.

International Admissions

Students who are not a U.S. born or naturalized citizens

Adult Admissions

In order to better serve all students, the services previously provided by the Adult Services Center have been distributed to the responsible offices.

University Honors

Our undergraduate program for academically gifted and motivated students.

Continuing Education

You're looking for noncredit professional or personal classes.
