University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Acceptable Use Practices (AUP)
Scope
The UTC ITAC is responsible for the creation and implementation of a robust, cost-effective information infrastructure in which authorized users can create and share intellectual and administrative information. ITAC has the authority to set and enforce guidelines and standards for the information technology environment, including both current and future technologies, and to resolve associated problems for the units. ITAC may delegate this authority to other units for operational purposes, such as the UTC Information Technology Division (ITD). Additionally, with respect to the lawful access of electronic information for research or instruction activities, this AUP is supplemented but not superseded by the UTC Lupton Library’s Computing Resources Use Policy.
The principles described in this document apply to all UTC computing and networking facilities that are provided for use for legitimate purposes relating to education, research, administration, and outreach activities of UTC.
All users and all devices connected to the UTC network, whether owned by UTC or not, are required to follow the principles in this AUP. The term, “UTC Technology Resources,” addressed in this document is defined but not limited to include any computers, computer systems, software applications, networks (including telecommunications equipment, e.g., routers, switches), or other devices that are owned by UTC. UTC Technology Resources include all electronic information, institutional data, documents, messages, programs or system software, or configuration files that are stored, executed, or transmitted via University computers, networks, or other information systems. Employee electronic mail may be public record and may be open to public inspection under the Tennessee Open Records Act.
