UHON Cultural Trip 2006
Vienna, Austria

Karlsplatz

The UHON Program 2006 cultural trip took students to Vienna, Austria to join in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of Wolgang Amadeus Mozart's birth. Students participated in a 1 credit fine arts seminar in the spring semester during which they were introduced to some of the music, visual art, architecture, and history of the city. As a part of the seminar's work, these students were paired up to design "threads" tracing a theme in the art, music or history of Vienna, such as “Jewish Vienna,” “Mozart's Vienna,” or “Secession Art.” During the trip, several days began with the whole group together for a morning excursion with the students leading their classmates and faculty members on these mini-tours during the afternoons. In addition to leading a thread, each student was required to follow at least two threads led by classmates during the course of the trip. This approach allows students to become familiar with getting around in a foreign city while still having the comfort of group support.
