UHON SCHOLARSHIPS

William E. Brock Jr. Scholarships
Paul Koblentz Memorial Scholarships
Roberta M. "Bobbie" Yates Scholarships

Each year the University Honors (UHON) Program awards exclusive 4-year renewable scholarships to freshmen selected for the UHON Program. These scholarships are funded by the Wiliam E. Brock Jr., Paul Koblentz and Robert M. "Bobbie" Yates Scholarship endowments. Brock, Koblentz and Yates Scholarships are of equal value and are selected using the same application process.

These scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters, as long as the student remains in good standing with the UHON Program. The student must maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and make at least 24 hours progress toward graduation each year.

To be considered for a UHON Scholarship, a student must submit both the University Honors Program Application and the UTC Application for Undergraduate Admissions no later than December 1 of the senior year in high school. (Students are encouraged to submit the Undergraduate Admissions application by November 1.) Selection for UHON Scholarships is based on the quality of the complete UHON application file, which includes high school academic record, ACT or SAT scores, teacher evaluations, extracurricular activities, essays and interviews.

A UHON Scholarship can be combined with other UTC Institutional Scholarships, such as the Chancellor's, Provost's, or MOCS Scholarships, and with TN Lottery Scholarships, and other outside scholarships, as long as the total award does not exceed the cost of attendance as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Most UHON students receive a scholarship package that covers the cost of on-campus housing, the required meal plan, all maintenance and enrollment fees (what most people call "tuition").

UHON Scholarship
Amounts for
Fall 2011 Freshmen

For students living in honors housing, the UHON scholarship package (including UTC Institutional Scholarships and Tennessee Hope Scholarship) will yield a total of $12,500 per year. For UHON students not living in honors housing, the scholarship package totals $9,500 per year.

For a student who does not receive other UTC Institutional or Endowed Scholarship funds and/or TN lottery scholarship funds, the UHON Scholarship amount will be determined according to that student’s particular financial situation.

NOTE: Students are responsible for meeting all application and acceptance deadlines for UTC's Institutional and Endowed Schoalrships and for TN Hope Scholarships. The UHON Program is not obligated to make up for other scholarship or lottery funds you do not receive because of failure to meet deadlines or other eligibility requirements.
