UHON Cultural Trip 2002
Denmark and Norway

The 2002 UHON Cultural and Fine Arts Tour took as its theme a study of the art and architecture of medieval Scandinavia. Twenty-five intrepid Honors students, four fearless UHON faculty members and assorted guests toured Copenhagen, Denmark and various sites in Norway, beginning in Oslo, making our way across the countryside, and ending up in Bergen.  Some highlights of our intinerary are listed below.

Our itinerary included:

Copenhagen - Rosenborg Castle, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (art museum), Christiansborg Castle, the National Museum, Tivoli Gardens

Roskilde Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde Cathedral

Overnight ferry to Oslo

Oslo - City Hall, National Museum, Vigeland Sculpture Park, Edvard Munch Museum, Viking Ship Museum, Folk Museum, including Gol Stave Church, Kon-Tiki Museum

To Bergen via Hemsedal and Sognefjord, stopping to see stave Churches at Nore, Kaupanger, Rollag, Urnes, Heddal and Borgund (not necessarily in that order)

Bergen - Bryggen and the Bryggens Museum, Hanseatic Museum, Haakon's Hall, St. Mary's Church, Bergen Art Museum, Fantoft Stave Church
