Biography
A native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, where she was born in 1949, Ras lived for a time in Nashville, Tennessee. She has written a volume of poems, Bite Every Sorrow, for which she won the Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets in 1997, and a work on the literature of Costa Rica. Ras now lives with her husband and daughter in Athens, Georgia, and is the Senior Editor for the University of Georgia Press's environmental section.
