Biography
Louise Moss hailed from Dyersburg, Tennessee. At the age of 15, Montgomery was orphaned and moved to live with her aunt in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She married William Montgomery in 1916, and served in the North Branch of the Mississippi Poetry Society as the President. After her husband died in 1953, Montgomery attended the University of Mississippi, where she earned her B.A. and M.A., graduating in 1957. She taught at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, and at the Lausanne School for Girls in Memphis, Tennessee. She continued writing poetry during this time, and in 1973, Montgomery was named the Poet Laureate of Mississippi.
