Biography
Gray lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she taught English and Drama at Heritage High School. She was a stage actress, poet, and dancer, as well as a writer. Her children's fiction has been recognized by the Virginia Young Reader's Program and trade societies. Several of Gray's books have been incorporated into many widely available lesson plans, especially My Mama Had a Dancing Heart and Miss Tizzy. Gray succumbed to breast cancer on June 3, 1995. Her daughter, Amy Moore Morton, has since set three of Gray's books as ballets.
