Frieda Beasley Dorris (1920-2007)

Biography

Frieda Irene Beasley Dorris lived in Memphis, Tennessee. Dorris, along with Robert Simonton and Eve Braden, created the Dorsimbra form for poetry. This form calls for four lines of iambic pentameter rhymed abab, four lines of short and snappy free verse followed by four lines iambic pentameter blank verse, where the last line repeats the first line. Dorris was a homemaker and member of the Catholic Church. She had also served as President of the Poetry Society of Tennessee. Dorris passed away on November 5, 2007, in Memphis.
