Biography
John Bowers was born on March 12, 1928 in Lenoir City, Tennessee, and grew up in Johnson City. Bowers attended the University of Tennessee for his B.A., graduating in 1951. Upon becoming a fiction writer, John moved to Manhattan in 1962 where he went to work as a professor in Columbia University's Writing Program. He has also taught for New York State University at Stonybrook and Wilkes University, and was a writer-in-residence at East Tennessee State University.
