Dr. Guo is an applied medical anthropologist specializing in the relationship between culture and health. His research areas include community health, health beliefs and health care seeking behavior, self-care, culture and mental health, alternative medicine, and cross-cultural aging and health. Dr. Guo has expertise in ethnographic research methods, and has conducted extensive research on the health care beliefs and practices of Asian-Americans. Currently he teaches cultural anthropology, applied anthropology, research methods, culture and mental health, Chinese culture and society, and medical anthropology courses at the University.
Dr. Guo received his certificate of training in Chinese medicine in the area of "disease diagnosis and acupuncture and herbal therapies from the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing, China. At the end of 2003 he also was granted the academic title of "Concurrent Professorship" from Nanjing University, the 3rd ranked university in China. He currently holds the UC Foundation Professorship at UTC.
