Dr. Honerkamp is an archaeologist. Besides teaching the Department's archaeology courses, he teaches introductory courses in cultural anthropology,world prehistory, Southern Indians, and anthropological theory. He has won both the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award and the UT Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award. Dr. Honerkamp's research interests include the archaeology of antebellum plantation landscapes, industrial archaeology, and Tennessee prehistory.
Since 1980 he has served as Director of our Department's Institute of Archaeology, which carries out sponsored research projects in prehistoric and historical archaeology throughout the Southeast.
