PRAXIS EXAMS
- If you fall under the checkpoints you can apply for student teaching, but you cannot register or receive a placement until you have provided documentation that you have passed all required PRAXIS exams for your licensure. Scores must be received by UTC at least 3 weeks prior to the start of student teaching.

Every Initial License Applicant is Required to Take One of the PLT Exams
*0621 Principles of Learning and Teaching ECE 155
*0622 Principles of Learning & Teaching K-6 158
*0623 Principles of Learning & Teaching 5-9 158
*0624 Principles of Learning & Teaching 7-12 155
Note: PreK-3 and PreK-3 must take #0621.
Elementary K-8 may take either #0621 or #0622 or #0623.
Middle Grades (4-8) must take #0623.
Secondary 7-12 must take #0624.
K-12 or PreK-12 may take any one of the four tests.
School Counselor - no PLT test required.
School Psychologist - no PLT test required.
School Social Worker - no PLT test required.

Candidates seeking licensure in K-12 or PreK-12 endorsements may choose PLT P-4 [#0521], PLT K-6 [#0522], (PLT) 5-9 [#0512] OR (PLT) 7-12 [#0524].
**Note: Exemption from (PLT): Candidates for the following areas are only required to complete the appropriate Specialty Area Test: School Counselor PreK-12, School Psychologist, and Speech/Language Pathology.
***Note: SPED: ECE and Exceptional Education majors please be aware that:
Test 0354 is a two-hour Multiple-choice test.
Test 0543 is a two-hour Multiple-choice and Constructed Response test.
Test 0545 is a two-hour Multiple-choice and Constructed Response test.
There is a regular schedule of test dates for test 0014 Elem. Educ.: Content Knowledge.
World Language Tests will be offered during the following testing windows:
Window 1: 10/22/12 – 10/27/12
Window 2: 12/10/12 – 12/15/12
Window 3: 02/11/13 – 2/16/13
Window 4: 03/25/13 – 3/30/13
Window 5: 05/20/13 – 5/25/13
** NOTE: Candidates for the Beginning Administrator endorsements (A or B) must hold a valid Tennessee Teacher License or pass one of the PLT tests (these endorsements are available only to in-state graduates)
Candidates for the Instructional Leader – Beginning endorsement must hold a valid Tennessee Teacher License and have 3 years successful teaching experience.
Candidates for the Reading Specialist endorsement must hold a valid Tennessee Teacher License and have 3 years successful teaching experience.
**** Note: Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications is required for the following special education area: hearing, vision, and preschool/early childhood. Reading Across the Curriculum: Elementary, is required for the following special education areas: modified program, comprehensive program, hearing, vision, and preschool/early childhood.
NOTE: Posted on the ETS website are separate schedules for paper-delivered and computer-delivered tests. All computer-delivered tests have a “5” prefix (ex: 5014 Elementary Education: Content Knowledge), while all paper-delivered tests have a “0” prefix (ex: 0014 Elementary Education: Content Knowledge).
