Heath was moderator and a speaker for Plenary Session #6 -- Special Considerations for Persons with Disabilities and Chronic Conditions. The results of the workshop were presented to a special committee from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and presented to Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mike Leavitt. Leavitt and his staff announced that HHS would go forward in developing National Guidelines for Physical Activity for the nation, similar to the National Nutrition Guidelines.”

A previously published article coauthored with Marcia Noe, English, Women’s Studies, titled "Teaching Alice Walker's 'Everyday Use': Employing Race, Class, and Gender, with an Annotated Bibliography" was selected for inclusion in the forthcoming Spring, 2007 book, "Modern Critical Views." His new book, Figures in the Carpet: Finding the Human Person in the American Past, is a collection of 17 essays by various authors, including McClay, and he also served as editor of the volume. McClay was recently quoted in an op-ed piece written for the Wall Street Journal.
Jonathan McNair, music, was commissioned to write the first piece on the program which opened the 22nd season of the Choral Arts of Chattanooga, a concert marking the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. McNair’s piece included the Durufle "Requiem".
