The H. Carey Hanlin Motion Analysis Laboratory opened in 1990 as a partnership between Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). The lab is currently housed in the McKenzie Arena at UTC.

Research conducted at this laboratory covers a wide spectrum of topics including:

Spine biomechanics

Clinical gait analysis

Running biomechanics

Orthopedic surgery techniques

Golf biomechanics

Orthotics, prosthetics, and orthopedic bracing

Footwear biomechanics

Pharmaceutical interventions

Current Projects Include:

3-D  Analysis of the Golf Swing (studying the differences
between the full and modified backswings)

Computerized Tomography (CT Scans) being used in computational biomodeling
of muscles to investigate optimal stretches

Examples of Vicon data:

Vicon Polygon illustrating normal gait, comparing knee angles and showing muscle activity

Vicon Polygon - side view of rower comparing knee angles
