Nursing Scholarships
Nursing scholarships are for those admitted into the nursing major. UTC also offers additional scholarship opportunities for students.
Fall Scholarships must be received by 5:00pm on October 1st
Spring Scholarships must be received by 5:00pm on February 1st
Please note: No late applications will be accepted. If the due date falls on a weekend, scholarship portfolios will be due the following Monday).
All scholarship materials must be in an envelope and turned into the School of Nursing office, Metro 120. Please read the instructions for the scholarship you are applying for carefully to be sure you submit all required materials. If applying for more than one scholarship, please submit all materials in ONE portfolio – please do not duplicate materials.
All scholarship portfolios must include the following items:
1. A cover letter that introduces you and a list of the scholarships you are applying. Only one portfolio per person is needed.
2. A resume that includes work, community, and professional service activities (including offices held in organizations), memberships, awards, and honors
3. UTC Unofficial Academic Transcript
4. Statement of financial need -- written by student detailing financial situation as relevant to trying to pay for school. No official documentation required.
5. Two letters of recommendation from faculty and/or supervisors
6. An essay that briefly addresses your commitment to scholarship, leadership, and service, and that includes an instance in which you demonstrated clinical excellence.
7. Any letters or certificates of recognition or appreciation for speaking, volunteering, service, etc.
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medial Auxiliary Scholarship
Awarded: Fall and Spring semesters
Amount: $1000 each semester to 1 recipient
Criteria: academic achievement (GPA 3.0 or higher), financial need, and demonstrated characteristics of motivation and integrity. First, second, and third semester students are eligible for this award.
Jill Wheeler Memorial Scholarship
Awarded: Fall and Spring semesters
Amount: $500 each semester to 1 recipient
Criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and satisfactory clinical performance, as well as demonstrated emotional maturity, perseverance, tact, insight, and effective communication skills. Fourth and fifth semester students are eligible for this award.

Awarded: Fall and Spring semesters
Amount: $1000 each semester to 1 recipient
Criteria: academic performance and/or financial need. Undergraduate and graduate nursing students are eligible for this award.
Christine B. Little Scholarship
Awarded: Fall and Spring semesters
Amount: $500 each semester to 1 recipient
Criteria: academic achievement and financial need. Undergraduate women over age 25 are eligible for this award.
Please include in you cover letter that you are a woman over age 25.
Dr. E.E. Reisman Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded: Fall and Spring semesters
Amount: $1000 each semester to 1 recipient
Criteria: academic merit (GPA 3.0 or higher) and financial need. Second and third semester students are eligible for this award.
Nursing Alumni Scholarship
Awarded: Fall semester only
Amount: $300 to 1 recipient
Criteria: include the completion of at least 1 semester of the nursing major and demonstrated financial need. Undergraduates who have completed their first semester are eligible for this award.
Chattanooga Scottish Rite Charles Wade Memorial Scholarship
Awarded: Fall and Spring semesters
Amount: $500 to 1 recipient
Criteria: Must be have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 Third and fourth semester students , either full or part time are eligible for this award. Must have demonstrated financial need. A student holding the Charles Wade Memorial Scholarship in one year may reapply in subsequent years.
The Raymond Howard Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship
Awarded: Fall semester only
Amount: $1000 to 1 recipient ($500 awarded in fall and $500 in spring)
Criteria: academic achievement (GPA of 3.0 or higher) and/or financial need. Undergraduate male students in second, third, fourth or fifth semester are eligible for this award.
The Ray Scholarship in honor of Sarah Ruth Miller Ray, RN
Awarded: Fall semester only
Amount:$1000 to 1 recipient
Criteria: academic performance and/or financial need. A student holding the Ray scholarship in one year will have preference in subsequent years as long as continue to demonstrate successful academic performance.
H. Clay Evans Johnson Nursing Award
Awarded: Fall and Spring semesters
Amount: $500 each semester to 1 MSN recipient
$500 each semester to 1 BSN recipient
Criteria: academic achievement, clinical excellence, and community service. Current fourth and fifth semester undergraduates and graduate students are eligible.
Martha Butterfield Graduate Nursing Scholarship
Awarded: Fall semester only
Amount: $750 to 1 recipient
Criteria: include commitment to nursing, clinical competency, and leadership. Graduate students who have completed 9 hours of the graduate program and are currently enrolled in the second 9 hours are eligible. Please be sure your essay addresses all criteria listed above and includes—at a minimum—professional goals and aspirations, clinical experience through school and/or work, at least one example of a time you believe you demonstrated clinical excellence, and roles in which you have demonstrated professional leadership skills at school and/or work.
The Raymond Howard FNP Scholarship
Awarded: Fall semester only
Amount: $1000 to 1 recipient ($500 awarded in fall and $500 in spring)
Criteria: academic achievement (GPA of 3.0 or higher) and/or financial need. Male FNP students who have completed the first semester of the FNP program are eligible for this award.
Lena Klein Betterton Award
No Funding available at this time
Criteria: undergraduate status, age 30 or older, part- or full-time status, minimum GPA of 2.5, receiving no funding or reimbursement from any source (financial aid, employer, or scholarship) to go to school.
