Mr. Porter
The UTC Assistant Director of Bands, Director of Athletic Bands & the Jazz Program, Shane Porter received an MS in Music Education from Troy State University and a B.A. in Jazz Arranging/Composition from the University of Alabama. He is currently pursuing his DMA in Trumpet performance from the University of Alabama. Since graduating in 2002, Porter has been an active music educator, adjudicator and clinician from the middle school to collegiate level. Mr. Porter began his publishing career in 1999 with Warner Brothers Music. Since that time, Porter has been published by Alfred Reed Music, Jalen Music & FJH Music. Porter continues to add to the annual catalog of compositions & arrangements for educational institutions. In January 2006, "Music Through Time, An Appreciation of Music in Europe and America", a text in which Porter was a co-author, was published by Kendall-Hunt. He has been a professional trumpet performer since before graduating high school, touring with well known Motown artists such as the Temptations, 4-Tops & OJays. His most recent popular music affiliation is with American Idol, Ruben Studdard. Mr. Porter in amongst the youngest inductees into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Tuscaloosa Horns & is also affiliated with many professional organizations such as the International Association for Jazz Educators, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinphonia, and is a Lawler Trumpets performing artist. As the founder of the New South Jazz Orchestra, in February 2005, Mr. Porter celebrated the release of the groups self-titled CD.
