Mr. Hansel

"A sensitive, thoughtful player" remarked English guitarist Carlos Bonell of Robert Hansel, who, at the age of seven, began his musical studies receiving instruction on piano, violin, and trumpet before devoting his efforts to the guitar. He graduated with a degree in musical performance from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and went on to receive a Master of Music degree under the direction of the Cuban master, Mario Abril.

Mr. Hansel has appeared frequently as soloist in recital, concerto, and chamber music programs throughout the southeast. He was invited to participate in the 2001 Aranjuez Strings International Guitar Festival held at the University of Southern Mississippi. He has been a recorded and featured performer for several radio broadcasts.

Mr. Hansel has won acclaim as an interpreter of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Juan Orozco, former sponsor of a concert series at Carnegie hall, commented, "One of the best performances of [the A minor Fugue (BWV 1000)] that I have ever heard." Mr. Hansel is also an enthusiastic supporter of new compositions. Premieres include works by J. Bruce Ashton, Jonathan Kulp, and Peter Temko's "Still Voices." (1998).

Currently, Mr. Hansel is adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Department of Music and Cadek Conservatory. He also teaches for Chattanooga State Technical Community College and Southern Adventist University.
