He came to UTC in July of 1971 as Head of the Cadek Department of Music. In 1973, as UTC assumed ownership of Cadek Conservatory, he was appointed Director of Cadek. In 1981, he was awarded an Alumni Distinguished Service Professorship. Gerschefski relinquished the headship in 1988, but continued to serve Cadek Conservatory in one administrative capacity or another until 2002. At that time, he returned to full time teaching.
Prior to coming to UTC, Gerschefski served both as band director and professor of music at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount(1962-65) and as head of the theory/composition program in the Music Department of the University of South Carolina in Columbia (1965-71).
Currently on a post-retirement teaching program, Dr. Gerschefski’s assignment involves teaching Introduction to Music (Music 111) classes in the Spring semester.
