Chamber Singers European Tour Homecoming Concert

The UTC Music Department is delighted to present the “UTC Chamber Singers European Tour Homecoming Concert,” directed by J. Kevin Ford. The performance will take place in the Christ Episcopal Church, 663 Douglas St., Chattanooga on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. The performance is presented free of charge and open to the general public.
UTC’s Chamber Singers travelled to Prague, Vienna, Eisenstaedt and Budapest during spring break performing concerts in each of the major cities visited. In Vienna, they performed a joint concert at St. Salvator Church with the Czech women’s choir, Cantoria Praha, held a midday performance at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, and performed at a friendship concert with the VetMed Choir at Barnabitenkirche. In Budapest, they performed as part of the church service at St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest. Highlights from their performance will feature works from their tour, including: the challenging “Chichester Mass” by William Albright, a unique “Da Pacem Domine” made up of composers from all over the world, and two Roland Carter arrangements, “In Bright Mansions Above” and “You Must Have that True Religion”.
The UTC Chamber Singers is the most select of the Music Department’s five choruses. They are the main touring group in the department and along with the Chattanooga Singers, have a long history of local, state wide and international concert tours. They are comprised of undergraduate and graduate students studying a wide variety of disciplines at the college.
The Chamber Singers is directed by Dr. J. Kevin Ford (M.M.E. and Ph.D. Florida State University) who is in his ninth year as Director of Choral Activities at UTC. Previously Dr. Ford has taught and conducted at the high school and middle school level in Rossville, Georgia and has taught and conducted at The State University of New York at Potsdam’s Crane School of Music and has been the Director of Choral Activities and Vocal Music Education at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has been a guest conductor and adjudicator throughout the southeast, New York and Canada.
