UTC Music Department presents a Piano Recital

The UTC Music Department is pleased to present a piano recital, featuring guest artist Arunesh Nadgir. The concert will take place in the UTC Fine Arts Center, Roland Hayes Concert Hall, 752 Vine St., Chattanooga, on February 10 at 7:30 p.m. It is presented free of charge and is open to the general public.
Pianist Arunesh Nadgir has performed as soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He holds degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music, The Juilliard School, and the Eastman School of Music. An accomplished teacher, he is currently Assistant Professor of Piano at Middle Tennessee State University. He previously taught at the Eastman School of Music where he was an Instructor of Primary and Secondary Piano as well as the Teaching Assistant to Professor Natalya Antonova. In addition, he has been on the faculties of the New England Conservatory’s Preparatory and Continuing Education Departments, The Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the Palisades School of Music.
Tonight’s recital will include Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) Bagatelles, Op.126, which were published late in his career and dedicated to his brother Johann van Beethoven and, Piano Sonata No. 23, or “Appassionata”, which is considered his most tempestuous piano sonata. In addition, Nadgir will perform a few compositions by the Russian composer and pianist Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915). Considered one of the most innovative and controversial of early modern composers, Scriabin’s piano music has grown in popularity with professional pianists in recent decades. Tonight’s performance will include: Piano Sonata No. 9, which is more commonly known as the “Black Mass Sonata”, Prelude, Op. 16 No.4 and Poem, Op.32 No. 1 in F# Major.
