Viola

On Thursday March 25th, at 7:30 p.m., the UTC Viola Ensemble, directed by Floy Wang, will present an all-viola recital in Cadek Recital Hall (located on the main floor of the Cadek Conservatory of Music at UTC). The concert will feature each of the eight viola students on his/her own solo, and it will conclude with all eight students in a massed performance of Telemann’s Concerto in G Major for two violas. This performance is open to the general public and presented free of charge.

Director, Floy Wang states, “Since we [the violas] don’t often have our ‘moment in the sun’ during symphonic performances, we are taking our moment now to share the glory that is the viola.” The students intend to do just that, with a challenging program that includes music from such composers as Johan Wenzel Kalliwoda, Fritz Seitz, J.S. Bach, Franz Anton Hoffmeister, and others. The UTC Viola Studio is comprised of a diverse group of students involved in a variety of major programs and activities around campus. There are two music majors, one music minor, and the rest of the students are from various schools in the university. There is even a freshman member of UTC Crew that is part of the ensemble.

Mrs. Floy Wang, instructor for applied viola and viola ensemble director at UTC, has also taught at Girls Preparatory School, McCallie, Cadek Conservatory of Music, and Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences. She has also performed with the Birmingham Pops Orchestra, the Johnsche Orchestra, The Wurzburger Junge Camerata, The El Paso Symphony, The Olympia Symphony, and the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Orchestras.
