Press Release Date: 2/1/2010
On Tuesday, February 9th at 7:30PM, the UTC Music Department presents a guest artist recital featuring Thomas Hooten on trumpet, accompanied by Jenny Parker on piano. The concert will be at Roland Hayes Concert Hall in the UTC Fine Arts Center (corner of Palmetto and Vine), and the concert is free and open to the general public.
Guest artist, Thomas Hooten, is currently the principal trumpeter of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and he can be heard on several of their recordings. Mr. Hooten earned his bachelor of music degree from the University of South Florida and his master's degree from Rice University. In 2000, he won a trumpet/cornet position with "The President's Own" Marine Band in Washington, D.C., where he was often a featured soloist. Mr. Hooten has been in symphony orchestras, given master classes, and performed in recitals throughout the United States. The UTC Music Department is so pleased to have Chattanooga be one of his stops. Mr. Hooten will perform pieces by Arthur Honegger, Maurice Ravel, and Halsey Stevens; thus, the program will be quite diverse, containing German, French, and American influences.
Furthermore, Jenny Parker will accompany Mr. Hooten on the piano. Mrs. Parker has served as an accompanist for churches, schools, community choirs, and individual performers for the last 16 years. She is currently serving as a children’s choir director, accompanist, and School of Fine Arts Kindermusik Director at First Baptist Church in Chattanooga, and she is on the accompanying staff at The University of Tennessee in Chattanooga.
