Roland Hayes Recital Hall, UTC Fine Arts Center
Press Release 03/13/2009
On Monday, April 6, 2009 at 7:30 pm the UTC Music Department will present a program of chamber music performed by members of the Music Department Faculty. The performance will be held in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall, UTC Fine Arts Center, (corner of Palmetto and Vine St.) The concert is free and open to the public.
There is a fundamental factor in music-making that has influenced composers, performers, and audiences throughout history: the more people involved, the more it’s going to cost whether one is considering investment of time, effort, or actual expense. This factor, combined with the communal nature of music itself, probably explains the prodigious quantity of chamber music pieces written by the great composers. Musicians love to perform in small groups, comparing or contrasting the uniqueness of an individual instrument or vocal sound with that of another. In this program, you will experience several such combinations.
The program includes 20th century French composer Darius Milhaud’s “Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano”, performed by violinist Don Zimmer, clarinetist Nikolasa Tejero, and pianist Sin-Hsing Tsai. Ms. Tejero also joins flutist Julie Hobbs and pianist Tim Hinck for American composer Alec Wilder’s “Suite for Flute, Clarinet and Piano”. Also pianist David Walters, bassist Kathryn Kovanen, and percussionist Monte Coulter will join pianist Sin-Hsing Tsai for the contemporary French composer Claude Boling’s “Suite for Two Pianos, No. 2”.
