Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Floy Wang earned her BA at the University of Alabama, studying violin with Emil Raab, and Viola with Henry Barrett. She also studied viola with Anton Weigert at the Nordbayerische Conservatorium der Musik in Wurzburg, Germany. She earned her MM in Viola Performance at UTC, studying viola with Dr. Barbara Creider.
Mrs. Wang retired from Girls Preparatory School in 2001. She developed the orchestra program from her original class of 15 students to a full time program with multiple levels of classes. She also taught strings at the McCallie School and co-conducted the GPS/McCallie coordinate orchestra program. In 1993, Mrs. Wang was named Girls Preparatory School's Distinguished Faculty Member. Before taking the full time position at GPS, Mrs. Wang taught at the Cadek Conservatory of Music and the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences.
Mrs. Wang has performed with the Birmingham Pops Orchestra, the Johnsche Orchestra, The Wurzburger Junge Camerata, The El Paso Symphony, The Olympia Symphony, and the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Orchestras.
Outside of the music world Mrs. Wang enjoys many "hands on" hobbies. Her most unusual honor was having an eight woman racing boat named after her by Girls Preparatory School.
Mrs. Wang now teaches viola and directs the viola ensemble at UTC. She also maintains a private studio in East Brainerd.See another bio
