A Thoughtful Approach to Design and Instruction
- DESIGN DOES NOT HAVE TO BE DIFFICULT TO BE EFFECTIVE.
- MOST ADVANCED EFFECTS CAN BE SIMPLIFIED
- STRONG DESIGN SAVES TIME
- EFFECTIVE PLACEMENT OF GUARD AND PERCUSSION CAN BECOME INTUITIVE AND IT IS VERY SIMPLE.
- NO STAFF? NO PROBLEM. DESIGN AROUND IT.
- TRANSITIONS ARE THE KEY TO EFFECT.
- DESIGN DRILL WITHOUT TRICKY CURVED PATHWAYS AND OVER THE SHOULDER GUIDE POINTS.
- LEARN FIVE BASIC TECHNIQUES FOR GETTING IT ON CLEAN AND KEEPING IT CLEAN ALL SEASON
- LEARN WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE TAUGHT YOU (BUT DID NOT) IN COLLEGE
ABOUT DR. BENKERT...
Dr. Stuart M. Benkert designed his first show when he was 18 years old and since that time has written more than 250 band, corps, winter guard and winter percussion shows. Stuart taught his first design clinic for credit at The University of South Florida when he was 22. Dr. Benkert has spent the past two decades teaching simple design principles to music educators at university clinics, All-State conventions, and national organization meetings (such as ASBDA) around the country.
In 1992 Stuart began developing a new system. At Bassett High School, Dr. Benkert’s staff was only available for band camp, after which he and his assistant were responsible for all drill, music, percussion and color guard components. To compensate for not having staff, Stuart developed a method of basics, instruction, and design that would allow just two directors to clean all components of a 90 chart competitive field show…and win.
While at the University of Kansas, Dr. Benkert altered these concepts to create a method of instruction and design that would allow university band programs to field a modern style show in just seven rehearsals. The philosophy behind this was simple: Music education students cannot learn to produce modern shows if they are in band programs that use dated squad and follow-the-leader techniques. Stuart blended his collegiate and competitive techniques to create a system that will allow you to compete and do well with thoughtful effort.
