Mathematics Workshops
The UTC Mathematics Department will be offering one summer workshop for area mathematics teachers this year. The workshop is funded through the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) as a part of the Improving Teacher Quality (ITQ) program.
This year’s workshop will focus on Middle School Mathematics and will serve 6th, 7th, and 8th grade mathematics teachers.
Topics covered in the workshop include:
- Common Core Mathematics Standards: content and design
- Teaching methodologies to support Mathematical Practices of the Common Core
- Content specific knowledge related to fractions, ratios, proportions and their extension and use in algebra and geometry
- Test taking strategies with emphasis on the EXPLORE test and possible assessments for Common Core topics
The workshop will be held the week of June 11 – 15, 2012.
