THE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
The Department of History offers an undergraduate major leading to the bachelor of arts degree. The undergraduate minor in history closely parallels the major in terms of the kinds of course experiences offered. These programs seek to introduce the student to a wide range of courses in American, European, and non-Western History that will prepare graduates for life and work in a global economy. History faculty actively supervise special undergraduate research projects at the senior level and are participants in the University's honors program. Either the major or minor in history can readily be combined with other majors at UTC. Students studying to become history teachers at the high school level should contact the Teacher Preparation Academy which will help them obtain state teacher certification with a "bachelor of science in secondary education: history." The department works with the Academy to provide a program for future teachers that is similar to that of history majors.
