Message From Your Chancellor
Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,
While this campus fulfills its responsibility as our region's higher
education leader, we must also be prepared to lead in other ways. One
opportunity for our campus to set a good example for the rest of our
community neighbors is by getting out of our classrooms and offices and
start moving. Obesity has reached an all-time high and more and more
young people, including college-aged students, are facing the health
problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
With my support and encouragement, your colleagues in the Department of
Health and Human Performance are organizing UTC's first Chancellor's
Challenge this fall. Through this series of events, Carolyn and I hope
to encourage UTC students and employees to set individual goals to
develop healthier lifestyles and to include moderate levels of exercise
in their daily schedules.
To celebrate the kick-off of the Chancellor's Challenge, opening rallies
will be held next week. These promise to be motivating and fun, and I
hope you will participate.
Student Opening Rally
Wednesday, September 6

Faculty and Staff Opening Rally

Throughout the fall semester, other campus events will be held,
including basketball games, dances, a mini-triathlon, and other
health-related activities. We will also partner with community neighbors like
the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the
Komen Foundation, and others.
To learn how you can earn a chance at cash and other prizes, check out
Carolyn and I are getting moving ourselves, and we want to encourage
each of you to do the same. So have fun, get moving, and good luck.
