APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE UTC GRADUATE SCHOOL
AND THE GRADUATE ATHLETIC TRAINING EDUCATION PROGRAM
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all of the application materials listed below as soon as possible. In order to apply to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Graduate School and the Graduate Athletic Training Education Program the following items are required:

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS EFFECTIVE FOR
CANDIDATES APPLYING FOR THE INCOMING COHORT, SUMMER 2014
Beginning this year, the UTC GATEP will utilize Skype technology for an intitial intervieing process.
To qualify for a Skype interview, the Program must have, on record, ALL of the following items:
- A completed on-line UTC Athletic Training Education Program Application Form for the 2013-2014 academic year
- A completed application to Graduate School (http://www.utc.edu/apply/) Please note: Be sure to apply for a summer 2014 term start (not fall)
- One (1) copy of Transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended
- A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Three (3) completed reference FORMS – You MUST use forms found on GATEP website at: http://www.utc.edu/Academic/GraduateAthleticTraining/docs/ref.pdf
- Cover letter
- Current resume
- Copies of prerequisite course descriptions (the UTC GATEP reserves the right to request course syllabi to determine whether or not a course truly satisfies the prerequisite requirements)
- Copy of current CPR and First Aid Certification Cards (online CPR courses cannot be accepted)
- Signed Technical Standards form, located at: www.utc.edu/gatp/docs/ts-print.pdf
- One (1) copy of Official GRE Scores (scores must be within the last five years) {if unavailable, eligibility for a Skype interview will be considered at the discretion of the Program Admission Committee}
To be invited for the on-campus interview option (for one (1) of two (2) designated dates (late fall and early spring)) invitations will be based on the results of the Skype interview. The on-campus interviews will include:
- Campus tour
- Meet with faculty
- Meet students
- Visit clinical sites
- Information session
The following courses are pre-requisites that must be completed prior to you beginning the UTC GATEP.
- Anatomy & Physiology (can be separate courses, or mixed A&P I and II)
- First Aid & CPR - Documentation from one of two methods:
- Course taken for college credit, provide syllabus
- Course taken via community organization - provide appropriate documentation
- General Psychology or Sociology; Sports Psychology and/or Sports Sociology (Any 1 of the 4 types of course)
- Nutrition
- Personal Health & Wellness
- Physiology of Exercise

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga welcomes international students. The requirements for international students are listed below. Please click HERE for more detailed information from the UTC International Students web page..
Requirements for international students are as follows:
- Completed and signed Graduate School application form. The link is: http://www.utc.edu/apply/
- $35.00 non-refundable application fee.
- TOEFL [Test of English as a Foreign Language] scores must be officially reported by the Educational Testing Service. A minimum score of 550 (213 computer/79 internet) is required. IELTS score of 6.0 or higher.
- Documentation of financial resources sufficient for nine months of study will be required prior to issuance of I20. There are no loans available to international students.
- Official transcripts from each college or university attended.
- Submit a clear copy of current passport with photo page and expiration date.
- Immigration Documentation: Students meeting all admission requirements and wishing to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will need an F1 student visa. If currently studying in the U.S., submit a copy of current I20, I94, visa, passport, and international adviser release form. Please see the International Studies Application Guide
- Student Health Services Requirement: The state of Tennessee requires that all students born after 1956 provide the university documentation of immunization with two (2) live measles vaccinations after age 12 months, unless inadvisable due to pregnancy, allergy to vaccine, or other valid medical reason. A verification of immunization, signed by a health care provider is required.

Campus Visitation Weekends
Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend one of the On-Campus Recruiting Visitation Weekends. Invitations for the On-Campus Recruiting Visitation Weekends generally go out about 2 weeks prior to the event.
- Although a campus visit is not required, applicants who attended a campus visit and qualify for admission are generally offered positions over those who do not attend a campus visit simply because the faculty have the opportunity to interview candidates in-person. Applicants who cannot attend a campus visit due to extenuating circumstances are still be eligible for application review.

Admission Policy and Deadline
Applicants are strongly encouraged to get all of their information and required documentation in as early as possible. The GATEP must have the appropriate documentation in order to provide you with an answer regarding your status and to select the best overall applicants from all that apply to the Program.
The admission procedure is a "rolling admission" process so that an applicant may be offered a position until all available positions are filled. However, generally speaking, we receive a sufficient number of applications by late January/early February stop accepting new application at that time.
Applicants may be recommended for admission into the GATEP if they meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Have a complete Graduate School admission folder with all required materials submitted
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater for all colleges and universities attended
- Applicants are scored based on their application materials.
*Review of completed applications begin as they become available.

Evaluation Process:
Applicants are evaluated on the following:
- On-line Athletic Training Applicant Information Form submitted
- All application material completed and sent to Graduate School (see checklist)
- Folder Review by program faculty
- GPA (Higher GPA = higher possible points)
- Advanced Academic Preparation (Receive an additional point for each advance science and math course taken and passed)
- Prerequisite courses descriptions are required at the time of application (Course syllabi may need to be submitted up request by program faculty

- Upon entering the GATEP, students will be recertified in CPR prior to the
start of the clinical experience.
- Recertification will be Health Care Provider certification for CPR by the American Heart Association as required by our sports medicine and medical partners
- Student Liability Insurance
- This insurance can be purchased through the UTC Bursar's Office; hence, we recommend you purchase your student liability insurance at Healthcare Providers Service Organization: www.HPSO.com
- Drug screen - 7 panel screen
- OSHA/TOSHA fit-testing for N95 particular respirator mask (inludes respirator training)
- TB skin test
- Must be negative within the past 12 months and proof of test and test results if test is done prior to coming to UTC
- Annually required

Applicants with higher scores on their application evaluation may receive an early recommendation for a position into the UTC GATEP. A candidate whose initial score was not sufficient for a recommendation for a position into the GATEP of a position will be kept on file and considered to if positions remain open. Candidates not accepted into the program will receive notification through a letter from the Graduate School.
Once an applicant receives an invitation into theUTC GATEP, he/she will be given two (2) weeks to make a decision to accept or decline the offer. In the case where an applicant does not reply back within the two-week time frame, then the position becomes vacant again and an invitation will be made to a different applicant. Should the initial applicant express his/her interest in the position after the two-week time frame has expired, the program faculty will determine whether or not to offer another position to this candidate.

"Academic Common Market is a tuition-savings program for college students in the 16 Southern Regional Education Board member states who want to pursue degrees that are not offered by their in-state institutions. Students can enroll in out-of-state institutions that offer their degree program and pay the institution's in-state tuition rates."1 To qualify for Academic Common Market you must be a resident of the following southern states:

Opportunities to Re-apply to the UTC GATEP
The files of applicants who were not offered a position into the UTC Graduate Athletic Training Program will be held for one (1) year. Should an individual decide to reapply for a position the next year, the candidate will need to notify the Director of Recruitment of his/her interest to reapply and be considered for a position in the GATEP. Additionally the applicant will need to resubmit an On-line Athletic Training Applicant Information Form and reapply to the Graduate School, (but you do not need to pay the application fee again, if it has been paid previously). The file from the previous year will be reactivated and considered once again for admission. The candidate will not need to resubmit all of the required materials. Exceptions include:
Candidate’s files extending beyond one year will be permanently deactivated; future interests by those candidates will require the full application process.

Post-Admission Requirements
Once you have been recommended to become a part of the UTC GATEP, there are several requirements that must be fulfilled before beginning of clinical rotation experiences in late July. Most of these requirements will be addressed when you arrive on campus for the summer session of classes.
You are NOT to complete these requirements when you apply to the program or to the Graduate School.
The only post-admission requirement a GATEP student must complete is the Criminal Background Check, which is due in early May.
