Poetry and Myth-making: Using Creative Writing to Revise History
Students will look at how modern authors rewrite mythological characters such as Helen of Troy and Persephone to reflect on, and oppose, historical cultural power structures. The course will combine readings in poetry involving myth, as well as creative writing exercises. Students will have the opportunity to contemporize a myth of their choice during the course.
