The Lady With the Torch: What Is Liberty?
We all know the pledge by heart: "One nation under God, with liberty and justice for all." But what does "liberty" really mean? What are "rights"? What is the difference between a "democracy" and a "republic" and why should I care? Explore the answers in this thought-provoking class!
This course is tentatively set to be offered on Tuesdays at 3:05 p.m.
Note: Please check the schedule of classes for the most up-to-date information about meeting times, locations, and availability.
About the professor
Dr. Joe Dumas, known to students in the CSE department as "Dr. Doom,” is in his seventeenth year on the UTC faculty. His "day gig" is teaching computer hardware. But he is most infamous in Hamilton County for having run for local political office five times without winning (yet). Dr. Dumas' perspectives on the American political process and the nature of human liberty will challenge you to question everything you thought you knew. This is the civics class you never had in high school!
