The Hunger Games: Fantasy or Reality?

This course will introduce students to novels focusing on the intersection of violence, media and literature. Students will read and discuss passages from novels ranging from Suzanne Collins’s popular Hunger Games and Catching Fire to its predecessors Battle Royale, Stephen King's novellas 'The Running Man' and 'The Long Walk', and others. Students will explore the cultural impact of integrating violence into entertainment, and will also look at how the themes from these novels have been used in contemporary reality shows and films.

Note: Please check the schedule of classes for the most up-to-date information about meeting times, locations, and availability.
