Social Networks and Avant-garde
This course will offer a whirlwind tour of notable Avant-garde art movements of the 20th century, while exploring the social dynamics which enabled each to exist. Sample groups include: Surrealism, Dadaism, Oulipo, Imagism, and Futurism. Students will consume manifestos and expressions of each movement across a variety of media. Assignments will require applying the techniques of these movements to contemporary social settings.
