Opportunities for ME students to Use Modern Engineering and Computational Tools
Information provided by surveying UTC ME students shows that the students are very pleased with their accessibility to computing facilities. This results from their having access to tiered classroom-computing rooms in Engineering Mathematics and Computer Science building (EMCS) that are equipped with twenty-six modern PC computers and Microsoft software Word, Excel, and Power Point. These computing facilities are open for use by ME students. LabVIEW, Matlab, Maple, ANSYS, TK SOLVER, and similar software are also provided on each of these computers. Modern engineering design and analysis tools are integrated throughout the ME curriculum, with special attention being given to utilization of modern electronic instrumentation and data acquisition in design and operation of thermal and mechanical systems. Many of the specialty engineering labs described have computer workstations that are used primarily for conducting labs while also being used for report preparation and general computations purposes.
