Ed.D. in Learning and Leadership at Kingsport
Program Highlights
The focus of the Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE) doctoral program in Learning and Leadership is to promote the development and understanding of the leadership process in a variety of organizations. Offered by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, program graduates are equipped to demonstrate high levels of proficiency in any leadership relationship or environment.
The program incorporates course work, experiential learning and practical application of skills in organizational settings as part of the process of fulfilling degree outcomes. A combination of orientation seminars, online work, live video-streaming, and/or independent study projects ensures that the program meets the specific educational needs and career goals of each participant. All course orientation sessions and/or video conferences will be held at the KCHE. This delivery model is designed to accommodate the working schedules of full-time professionals. The program culminates in a comprehensive evaluation using an Individualized Learning and Leadership Plan/Portfolio ("ILLP") along with the creation and defense of a doctoral dissertation.
What follows are the key elements of the Ed.D. program in Learning and Leadership at Kingsport:
Cohort Based--15-20 twenty highly qualified participants will engage in doctoral activities as a regional group
Competency Based--Participants must master competencies in seven domains (Learning, Leadership & Ethics, Instruction, Assessment & Evaluation, Technology, Organizational Theory and Reform, & Research)
Theme--Provides integrated view of leadership in a variety of organizational settings
Program Core--A two year program consisting of 39 core credit hours in seven domains
Focused Electives— A minimum of 15 credit hours of course work in the learner's specific area of interest (concentration). All focused electives must be approved by the primary advisor as part of the ILLP (Individualized Learning and Leadership Plan/Portfolio)
Dissertation--A minimum of 12 dissertation research credits is required. Each student will complete and defend a dissertation representing the culminating project for the degree
Technology--Instruction in technology will be weaved throughout the program
Periodic Review--Every second semester each student will undergo formal review of progress in the program
Total Program--The total program will consist of 66 credit hours (minimum) of course work
