Graduates of this program will be competent in each of the following areas:

An inquiring scholar of the educational enterprise with a working knowledge of
•  ethics
•  foundations – history and philosophy
•  current reforms and emerging trends

An inquiring scholar of the learning process with a working knowledge of
•  theories of learning and human development
•  individual differences
•  adult (life-long) learning

An inquiring scholar of leadership with a working knowledge of
•  leadership theories
•  change
•  planning and decision-making

An teacher/instructor who exhibits skills
•  in using, evaluating, and adapting instructional materials
•  in instructional management techniques to accommodate individual variability
•  in instructional strategies, including effective use of technology

An inquiring scholar of assessment and evaluation with a working knowledge of
•  assessment (measurement) instruments and strategies
•  performing assessment and evaluation
•  using assessment and evaluation data

An effective user of instructional technology with a working knowledge of
•  available technology
•  application of technology for instruction
•  application of technology for assessment and evaluation

An active researcher with
•  skills in reading and evaluating research
•  skills in conducting research
•  skills in reporting research

Note: These competency outcomes are general and are considered minimal criteria for completion of the program. The manner in which each is demonstrated will be addressed in each participant's Individual Learning and Leadership Process (ILLP). Flexibility is built into the program in such a way as to encourage individual application of the outcomes and even the degree of focus on each area. Each participant's individual program will focus on one or more areas that are of particular interest to that person. It is also assumed that each individual's program will carry the participant beyond the minimal levels of competence in the areas upon which that individual chooses to focus.
