DEVELOPMENTAL MATHEMATICS PROGRAM

 

Title:  Math Tutor

 

Type of Employment:  Semester

 

General Qualifications:

Have above average grades in mathematics courses as well as other coursework.

Have credit for first semester calculus either in high school or college.

Have an interest in helping students who are weak in mathematics.

 

Reports to: Assistant Director of Developmental Mathematics and Math Lab Supervisor (supervisor)

 

Basic Function: 

The tutor assists students in topics encompassed in the Developmental Mathematics Program, elementary (math 105) and intermediate algebra (math 106).  The tutor helps students in the Math Lab under the direction of the supervisor.  The tutor also assists with the administration of tests and other basic operations of the Math Lab as directed by the supervisor.

 

Responsibilities:

Attend staff meetings, including a meeting prior to the beginning of the semester.

Implement Math Lab procedures

Tutor students effectively by applying tutoring methods discussed in training.

Gain familiarity with topics in math 105 and math 106.

Assist students individually or in a group setting.

Complete portions of the practice problems that are provided for developmental mathematics students.

Tutor students taking math 123/131/144/145/151/210/214 as qualifications merit and as directed by the supervisor.

Review topics in college level courses as directed.

Perform clerical duties associated with the administration of tests.

Proctor tests.

Grade selected assignments for Developmental Mathematics Instructors.

 

Pay Scale: 

$7.00/hour; higher if you have a bachelor’s degree

Monies are directly deposited into your bank account.
