Roger Thompson, Associate Professor

Dr. Thompson is one of the seasoned Criminal Justice faculty having joined UTC in 1976 shortly after completing both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Criminal Justice at Youngstown State University. A doctorate in Education degree was conferred by The University of Tennessee in 1983. He is a UC Foundation Professor.
Dr. Thompson is known for his level and involvement in community service with focus on youth gangs, homelessness, community development, and crime prevention strategies. He was selected by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission among faculty and students across the state of Tennessee to receive the 2011 Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award.
Current projects include appointment by the Mayor to the Office of Multicultural Affair’s Advisory Board, membership on two youth gang committees, and planning committee for an Emergency Shelter for the Homeless. He is also active in challenging the early school start times of many local public schools.
