The UTC Criminal Justice Department is now offering an online degree completion program. It allows student to complete their BS degree totally online.
Distance Learning Program Overview
This program is specifically designed for individuals who have completed a two year degree (or equivalent) and would like to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. This type of program is referred to as a Degree Completion Program. It assumes applicants have completed general education requirements and an introductory course in criminal justice. It also requires completion of an additional 12 hours of upper division courses from a four year institution, although students with an extensive work history and/or training in the criminal justice field may be eligible for Individualized Education Program (IEP) credits. The remainder of the program courses, including all major requirements, is offered completely on-line by UTC. The curriculum is delivered completely in web-based format via the Blackboard (Bb) course management system, allowing students to enjoy the convenience and flexibility of a distance learning format.
UTC’s distance education programs are designed to provide high quality courses and services in a flexible learning environment. Programs are offered through the use of online technologies so that students may have increased access to high quality educational opportunities. We recognize that many quality students wish to earn a B.S. degree, but have other obligations that prohibit them from moving to Chattanooga to earn the degree. Distance learning can be a wonderful alternative for many students including those who work shift work or who live too far away from a four year institution to complete a degree program.
On-line courses are asynchronous meaning that students complete their work at different times throughout the day and week. For the most part, all students are not on-line at the same time. On-line courses are NOT independent study courses. They are NOT self-paced. They require a daily and/or weekly time commitment which includes on-line interaction with faculty and other students in the class. Students need access to a computer and the Internet, and they also need to have basic computers skills.
Courses in the online program have been modified specifically for web-based delivery. All course materials and requirements of the degree program are identical to the face–to-face program offered on-site at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). The material is simply delivered in a different format. Courses are taught by full-time faculty members who teach the same courses face-to-face at UTC. As such, students experience an interactive course with the same quality and rigor expected in a face–to-face course. Click here for more detailed information.
