Computer Science and Engineering Undergraduate Program
With technology ever changing, UTC computer science and engineering students have access to some of the best computer technology available in the southeast. Since 2000, our department earned has earned accreditation from the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), for the Software Systems, Scientific Applications, and Information Security and Assurance options, and from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET for the Computer Engineering option. The Committee on National Security Systems and the National Security Agency certified and designated our department as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
The Computer Science and Engineering program combines a core of computer science courses with a concentration in one of four areas:
- Software Systems
The application of computers to business problems. - Scientific Applications
The application of computers to solving numerically oriented scientific and engineering problems. - Information Security and Assurance
The protection of computer systems, computer networks, and the information stored on them from misappropriation or malicious attack. - Computer Engineering
The study of the structure, function, and interaction of computer hardware and software.
In these programs, emphasis is placed on problem solving as well as competencies in software and hardware design.
At UTC, our students graduate prepared to impact society by making a difference in our lives while using technology to improve the way we live and interact with eachother in the 21st Century. They are prepared for productive and challenging careers in computer and information technology, and to function as leaders in a technology-oriented society.
