We are offering a great line-up of electives this spring.  Please see the course catalogue for all of the course descriptions.

Please remember that communication majors are limited to taking 12 hours (four courses) in communication electives.  So choose your comm. electives carefully. Here are just three of the 11 elective offerings for spring.

Comm. 350-01 Producing Television News, taught by long-time television reporter and anchor Mike Dunne, will guide you through the fundamentals of preparing television news stories and scripts.  You’ll want to take this course if you have an interest in any aspect of television news.  Mr. Dunne will guide you through writing a show, anchoring and producing.  The prerequisite is Comm. 231.

Comm. 400-01 Producing Web Stories and Content will get you ready to write and create informational content for the Internet.  Mike Andrews, Web producer for WRCB Television, will teach the course.  This course is a “must” for students who want to learn more about getting information out on the Web in written, video, audio and graphic forms.  The prerequisite is approval of instructor and department head.  Please see Dr. Alderman for more information.

Comm. 400-02 Introduction to Sports Writing will teach you the skills required to succeed in covering sports for a newspaper, magazine or website. The class will place a strong emphasis on writing, from basic game stories to magazine-length profiles to columns. Chris Dortch, who has spent 30 years in the sports media business, will teach the course.  He is the editor of the popular Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and Blue Ribbon College Football Yearbook annuals. The prerequisite is approval of instructor and department head.  Please see Dr. Alderman for more information.
