Holly Cowart brings her experience as assistant editor for the Chattanooga Times Free Press Community News to the classroom. For the past several years she has also been a news and business writer for the publication. Cowart covers municipal government in Red Bank, Signal Mountain and Soddy-Daisy.
She has had a lifelong interest in politics, which contributed to her career choice. However, she credits her experience as a University Echo writer covering faculty senate as the reason she can find interesting stories in long local government meetings today.
Cowart graduated magna cum laude from UTC with a Bachelor of Arts in communication and was inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha, National Honor Society.
She interned with the National Organization for Women in Washington, D.C. and returned to Chattanooga as a features and news writer for the North Georgia Newspaper Group.
She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Memphis through its eCampus
