Communication Department Alumni Association
The Communication Department Alumni Association (CDAA) was founded in October of 1999 by a group of five alumni. The organization’s goal was to serve as a link between the department. alumni working in the “real world” and communication students.
The group drafted and passed by-laws and a mission statement (found here).
Over the years the group has been active, it sponsored several events including a mentor program for current students and alumni, job networking sessions, panels and workshops. CDAA members have regularly participated in Communication Week activities each spring and have served as professional guests at the “Pizza with the Pros” lunch during Comm. Week.
The group was inactive for several years, then regained momentum in the fall of 2007. It sponsored a networking luncheon for communication students Oct. 31, 2007. About 20 alumni and more than 80 majors attended the session.
In January 2008, about a dozen alumni attended a workshop in Frist Hall taught by faculty member Dr. Charlene Simmons. The session gave departmental grads information and tips on communicating on the Web.
CDAA is planning on co-sponsoring a picnic for current communication students and alumni Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008. More details will be available soon.
