Can
I find out how many students earn an A in a course from a certain
professor?
This information is not available.
Do I have more than one type of
GPA?
Yes. You have your major GPA, your UTC GPA, your transfer GPA,
your cumulative GPA and your Institutional Credit GPA.
How do I calculate my GPA?
GPA’s are calculated by dividing the total number of quality
points earned by the total number of credit hours attempted.
(QP/AH)
How do I change my probation
status?
To change from probation to good standing, a student must raise
the cumulative GPA to the required minimum of 2.0. If the student is
unable to bring their GPA up in a single semester, but earns
a minimum of a 2.0, then the student remains on probation. If
the student’s GPA falls below a 2.0, then the student
is suspended.
How do I find out my grades from
last semester?
By logging into MocsNet and looking under "Student Information".
What if I miss several classes
due to illness or accident?
Students who are unable to complete a course due to severe illness
or accident should speak with their professor regarding the
possibility of receiving an Incomplete for the semester or filing
for an Exception to Late Withdrawal.
What if I receive a grade other
than what I expected?
Students who believe they have received a grade in error, should
first speak with their professor to verify that a clerical error has not occurred and that the grade posted is correct.
What is academic forgiveness?
Academic Forgiveness allows a student to remove all courses completed
eight years or older from their GPA.
Which classes do I have to earn a C
or better in?
Please refer to current prerequisites listed in the most current course catalog.
Am I required to make a “C”
in all my major or business classes?
No, students must have a 2.0 GPA (average) in their major, at
UTC and cumulatively, but not necessarily in all individual
courses.
Do I have to maintain a certain GPA?
Yes, all students must meet UTC retention standards. Please see the current UTC course catalog for details.
What happens if I am unable
to maintain the required GPA?
Students whose GPA falls below a 2.0 for the first time will be placed on probation. Students whose
GPA falls below the minimum for the second time will be academically suspended.
How do I get an incomplete?
Students who are unable to compete all course work due to extenuating circumstances may ask their professor
for an Incomplete or sometimes the professor will issue an Incomplete
on behalf of the student.
How long do I have
to finish an Incomplete course?
If you earn an Incomplete in a course, you have until a specific
date during the following semester. Fall Incompletes must by
completed by a date in April. Spring and summer incompletes
must be completed by a date in November. For specific dates,
please see the current online Academic Calendar.
What happens if I don’t
complete the work on time?
Any Incomplete that has not been changed to a letter grade by
the deadline will automatically be changed to a failing grade,
“F”.
What types of circumstances
are eligible for an Incomplete?
Each request for an Incomplete is based on a case by case basis.
Incompletes are to be used for those brief, but life-interrupting
and untimely events, such as contracting the flu during finals.
Why did I receive a grade of “I”?
An “I” stands for Incomplete. An Incomplete gives
the student extra time to complete course work for the semester
without having to repeat the entire course or making a low grade.
