Graduation
Step
1: Apply for candidacy.
The Application
for Candidacy acts as a formal contract between you, the College of Business,
and the Graduate School regarding the course work you will complete
to meet your degree requirements. As such, the courses that you
have taken or will take to finish the MBA or MAcc program are listed
on the form. No credits earned with grades below C will be accepted
for graduate degree requirements. (However, grades of D or F are
computed into the graduate grade point average).*Background
courses should not be included as part of the list of courses. Submit the Application
for Candidacy AFTER
the completion of nine hours of core and/or elective courses
and BEFORE completion of more than 18 hours of application and/or elective
courses. The form must be typed, have your original signature, and be turned into the College of Business Graduate Office (Fletcher 408).
If you failed to complete the candidacy form before you completed more than 18 hours, you must petition the university for acceptance of your late candidacy form. The petition form and its instructions can be found by clicking here - Graduate Petition Form.
** Specific information for the candidacy form: the "major" line should be left blank, concentration is general, total hours should equal 36 for MBA and 30 for MAcc, and you do not have a comprehensive exam (the capstone serves the same purpose).
Step
2: Apply for graduation.
You must submit an Application
for Graduation to the Records
Office. Submitting your Application for Graduation lets
the Records Office know when you plan to graduate and puts your
name on the graduation candidate list. The Application for Graduation is available on-line or you can pick one up in the Records Office(109 Race Hall). Graduation application deadlines are posted on the Records
Office website under graduation information.
Step 3: Order
graduation invitations, cap, and gown.
Caps and gowns can be purchased in the Bookstore in the University Center. In addition to your height, weight, and hat size, you will also need to know the academic degree you are to receive.
Step 4: Complete
all degree requirements.
That's a given!
Before you enter your last semester, you should check
with a College of Business adviso to make sure you have met all degree requirements
and are ready for graduation.
Step 5: Graduate!
It is not required
that you walk at graduation. You've worked hard and should
celebrate! Why not attend graduation with your family and be recognized
for your accomplishment!
The Records Office coordinates the commencement ceremony. More information about the graduation ceremony is available at the Records Office or you may call (423) 425-4416 to speak to someone in person.
