Admissions
Requirements
The admission process has two parts:
Step One - Admission to the UTC Graduate School must be achieved. Admittance to the UTC Graduate School is based upon a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5. If you do not meet this requirement, you can be admitted conditionally if you meet the program requirements below.
Step Two - Admission to the College of Business Graduate Programs must be achieved. If your undegraduate cumulative GPA is above 2.5, you will need to earn a score of 450 or higher on the GMAT to be admitted to the program. If your undergraduate cumulative GPA is below 2.5, you must meet the Admissions Index (AI) with a 950 or better. The AI is calculated as cumulative undergraduate GPA * 200 + GMAT score.
If a student does not meet the program admission requirements on the first try, the student must re-take the GMAT. If after taking the GMAT a second time, the student still does not meet the admission requirements, he/she can petition for admission by exception. Please contact Michael Owens, Assistant Dean, to inquire about this process at (423) 425-4210. Please be aware, that there is no guarantee that a student will be admitted by exception.
Taking the GMAT
The GMAT is offered as a computer based test. The test is offered on a regular basis at Pearson Professional Centers throughout the country. The local testing center's phone number is (423) 485-8524 or visit www.mba.com. On average the GMAT can be completed in about four hours. Upon completion of the exam, you will be given an unofficial score report. Official scores will arrive two to three weeks after the exam date. If you wish to prepare for the content of the exam, you can find several GMAT preparation books at local bookstores. The GMAT preparation books include sample test questions, preparation tips and skill building problems.
